Wedding Song, The

About The Film

From writer-director Karin Albou (Little Jerusalem) comes the sensual portrait of two teenage girlfriends, a Muslim and a Jew, who bond intensely during the Nazi occupation of the North African nation of Tunis. Myriam (Lizzie Brocheré) and Nour (Olympe Borval) have been inseparable since childhood, living harmoniously in a multicultural neighborhood, and sharing every dream for the future. Both are curious about men and sex. Forced into impending marriages by their families, Nour is engaged to cousin Khaled (Najib Oudghiri) while Myriam is to marry a wealthy, older stranger, Doctor Raoul (Simon Abkarian). The repression of German occupiers and traditional male authority put the courage and ethics of the two girls to the test. A fearless and poetic exploration of female sexual awakening and Jewish-Arab coexistence, THE WEDDING SONG is a story of seemingly powerless women reclaiming their destinies.
