Room and a Half

About The Film

A magical, wildly creative fantasia seven years in the making, ROOM AND A HALF presents a semi-fictionalized biography of the Jewish writer and Nobel Laureate Josef Brodsky. Born in 1940 and considered the greatest Russian poet of his time, Brodsky was exiled from the Soviet Union in 1972 and later died in America. Though he never returned to the motherland, ROOM AND A HALF imagines what that nostalgic voyage might have been like. We meet Brodsky's childhood friends and parents, tour his old Leningrad neighborhood and witness the oppressive nature of the Soviet regime. Seamlessly wedding live-action, documentary and archival footage with several types of animation, ROOM AND A HALF is a surrealist flight of fancy and charming pastiche of images based on Brodsky's memoirs. Directed by veteran filmmaker Andrey Khrzhanovsky.
